Primitive, ugly and crude black metal like vintage Darkthrone from Honefoss, Norway. The vocals are extremely reminiscent of Nocturno Culto's on "Under a Funeral Moon" and the bass-heavy basement bargain production is archetypical for the genre. "Baptised in Blood and Goatsemen" derives from of its strength from its primal brutality, coupled with the excellent switch between blasting fury and depressively bleak midtempo sections Beastcraft are able to address any fan of the genre. The midtempo sections carry a great vibe from the likes of proto-black metal acts Celtic Frost, Hellhammer or Venom, while the blast sections are typical high speed Scandinavian black metal. Overall, the oppressive atmosphere of hatefulness and gloom is pretty amazing. Beastcraft is hardly adding anything new to the primitive black metal spectrum, but their assault is surely one of the more convincing in the genre. This the quintessence of Satan channeled into the auditory equivalent of a nocturnal church burning. The production is pretty bearable considering this was recorded in the band's rehearsal space. The artwork, design and lay-out are old school collages of goat heads, inverted crosses and blood, which makes this band's purpose pretty clear. It's hardly to be called pretty, but it's damn well effective.
