Second album by Swedish death metallers Demonical, who consist of former members of genre stalwarts Centinex. "Hellsworn" continues where 2007's "Servants Of the Unlight" stopped and delivers a lethal dose of no-frills Swedish death metal in the tradition of Unleashed, Grave and Dismember, etc. While the tempo remains high through out Demonical take the time to slow down every once in a while, resulting in a dark and oppressive atmosphere. The production is similar to the classic Sunlight Studios sound of old and this gives the record a traditional and authentic feel. "Hellsworn" is everything one would expect of a Swedish death metal record: it's dark, catchy and technically proficient. Where a lot of modern death metal bands go out on a limb in both speed and technicality Demonical take the genre back to its roots. This is pissed off, demonic sounding death metal stripped down to its essence. Recorded and mixed between December 2008 and February 2009 at Necromorbus Studios by Sverker Widgren and Demonical. Mastered in March 2009 at Black Lounge Studios by Jonas Kjellgren (Insision, Scar Symmetry, Zonaria). The spooky artwork by Costin Alex Chioreanu (Grave, Satanochio) fits splendidly with the band's traditional sound. "Hellsworn" is one of the better, if not best, releases in its genre at this time.
