Dodsferd is the Greek equivalent to Australia's Striborg. Although taking its moniker from a track of Dimmu Borgir's 1996 "Stormblast" album, there are no similarities whatsoever. Nikos Spanakis, known by his artist moniker Wrath, has been consistently releasing albums of uncompromising and minimalist black metal on an annual basis since 2006, even releasing two albums in 2007. "Death Set the Beginning Of My Journey" is the first chapter in a proposed trilogy. Combining the raw black metal stylings of (early) Burzum, with the grooves of Satanic Warmaster and Darkthrone's latter day punk tendencies "Death Set the Beginning Of My Journey" is an album rife with disgust for the greater part of humanity. The production is fittingly low-quality and murky providing a flair of authenticity and nod to the genre's earliest releases. This new album isn't a great departure from Dodsferd's established style. The artwork and lay-out are minimal and dark, somewhat reminiscent of Funebrarum's recently released "The Sleep Of Morbid Dreams" or even his own "Cursing Your Will to Live". This is underground black metal for the blackest of the black. With Dodsferd there is no middleground.
