With veteran bands as Rotting Christ, Necromantia and Astarte laying the groundwork for the Greek black metal scene, young acts like Dodsferd are able to reap the benefits of their peers foundational efforts. Nikos Spanakis returns for another slab of minimalist black metal on Port Orchard, Washington specialist label Moribund Records. "Suicide And the Rest Of Your Kind Will Follow" is the second chapter in a proposed trilogy. Like its predecessor this record combines the likes of Burzum, Ondskapt (but much slower) and Sargeist in a pitchblack maelstrom of primitive and disgusting black metal with a rock 'n roll attitude. As before the production is fittingly low-quality and murky giving "Suicide And the Rest Of Your Kind Will Follow" an added boost of darkness and gloom. Unremitting its misanthropic nature Dodsferd reclaim the genre's early intentions and ideals through out its 6 tracks of depressive and semi-melodic black metal. It's solid and well played but hardly memorable or mandatory listening in the traditional sense of the word. Each track fits seamlessly with the next, but in the end remain just minor variations of the same idea. It's repetitive, it's hateful and underground connoisseurs will probably love it all the same. Dodsferd will keep the ancient flame burning.
