As a result of the series of reunion concerts that Norwegian progressive black metallers Emperor did in 2005-2007 Candlelight Records is now releasing a number of live recordings culled of these gigs, in both CD and DVD format. The first of these releases is the "Live at Wacken Open Air 2006" DVD. Caught with multiple cameras on the mainstage of Europe's biggest metal open air festival Emperor present a cross-section of their lengthy and storied career, including a cut of the "Prometheus" album. The majority of the set consists of cuts from "In the Nightside Eclipse", "Anthems To the Welkin at Dusk" with a couple of tracks from "IX Equilibrium" and, as said previously, a lone cut of the "Prometheus" album. Notably absent is a track from the band's early recordings, which was included in the band's first DVD "Emperial Live Ceremony" by way of 'Night Of the Graveless Souls' from the band's "Wrath Of the Tyrant" album. The video and audio quality of this release are outstanding. Each band members receives equal screen time and the rare use of effects (black-white, slow motion, etc) enhances the viewing experience. Ihsahn, Samoth and Trym are in fine form and the contribution of session members Secthdamon (bass) and Einar (synths) are impeccable and do justice to their predecessors Tyr and Charmand Grimloch. The DVD was shot by Roax Films while the audio was mixed at Akkerhaugen Lydstudio and Symphonique Studio by Thorbjorn Akkerhaugen. Bonus materials includes a behind-the-scenes documentary and various bootleg recordings. With recordings on both CD and DVD of the band's performance at the acclaimed Inferno Festival in Norway also on the way in the form of "Live Inferno", Emperor's time in the spotlight in guaranteed. The Emperor is dead, long live the Emperor!
