    Sanctus Satanas ()

Wydane przez Anti-Xtian Terror RecordsRok wydania Kraj USANapisał Wouter6Komentarze (0)Sol Evil - Sanctus SatanasBlack metal from Riverside, California who cut three demos and an EP in the late ‘90s. “Sanctus Satanas” compiles an assortment of Sol Evil’s demo material, specifically the entire “Dawn Of Infinite Obscurity” EP, three live tracks from the “Bliss Of Darkness” tour (‘Enshroud Thy Kingdom In Shadow’, ‘Echoes Through Eternity’ and ‘Descent Into Hell’) plus previously unreleased songs. This is stylistically similar to (early) Cradle Of Filth, pre-“Kings Of Chaos” era Hecate Enthroned and “Wrath Of the Tyrant” era Emperor. The production is relatively thick for black metal terms and despite being recorded at various smaller studios in California Sol Evil manage to capture the genre’s darkness adequately. The soundboard recording for the three live tracks even sounds pretty decent although the guitars end up buried in the mix whenever the keyboards go all out. Shipley’s vocals are also more of a death metal variety than that they are purely rasping. The keyboards and synthesizers are thankfully kept to the background in the band’s studio recordings. “Sanctus Satanas” is available through Westchester, New York label Anti-Xtian Terror Records. Artwork, design and lay-out are done by Lady Mörker and are serviceable. Strictly limited to 1000 copies. Raymond Shipley, the driving force behind Sol Evil, began serving a 15 year prison sentence in February, 2003. Since then he has assembled a new line-up for the band and continues to write music in prison. Not nearly as progressive as fellow symphonic black metallers Apotheosys or as musically dynamic as Infernaeon, but Sol Evil certainly is a charming black metal entity.
