Denver, Colorado death metal in the vein of classic mid nineties Gothenburg mavens as In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates. The progressive acoustic section in 'Man Is War' is particularly strong, reminding slightly of Sweden's luminaries Opeth. The re-recorded 'This Nightmare' (of their 2007 EP of the same name) has a vibe similar to At the Gates' seminal "Terminal Spirit Disease". This is distinctively European in concept and execution and Cryogen are better for it. While not nearly as violent as some of its peers Cryogen deliver the goods with ease. The material on this EP is brutal, engaging, melodic and technically refined. Recorded Summer 2008 at MindCycle Studios. Produced, engineered and mixed by Ryan Conner & Cryogen. Mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Acheron, God Forbid, Mastodon, Suffocation). Cover art and layout by Phil Fensterer are stunning and fit the release splendidly. "Psalms Of Deceit" is a breath of fresh air in a subgenre that has lost much of its appeal. If you like (later) Amon Amarth, (early) In Flames or The Absence, this is for you.
