Abscess are a hardcore punk-influenced death metal band from Oakland, California. The band was formed in 1994 by Chris Reifert and Danny Coralles, both former members of legendary gore-mongers Autopsy. This latest split sees the band teaming with UK death metallers Bonesaw for a release on the usually black metal oriented Aphelion Productions. 'Seeing Demons', 'Skulldozer' and 'Born To be Doomed' are vintage Abscess combining bleak bulging death metal with stripped down doom sections and hardcore punk influenced bits. The cover of Black Flag's 'Nervous Breakdown' is a fitting tribute to one of the band's metallic punk influences. Abscess' part of the split is raw, incredibly oppressive and broodingly dark in its old school simplicity and honesty. Bonesaw is standard underground death metal without any sort of surprises and remain rather anonymous through out their cuts of this split album. The artwork for this split was made by Abscess drummer/vocalist Chris Reifert. Abscess is the obvious reason for making this split worthy of anyone's time and attention.
