For two decades already Buffalo, New York born/Tampa, Florida bred extremists Cannibal Corpse have been continually defining and re-defining the death metal standards. On their 11th album "Evisceration Plague" the band continue to do no concessions to their well known sound. A bit leaner, a bit meaner and always pushing the boundaries of technicality and brutality this new record cements the promise of their critically acclaimed 2006 record "Kill". As on the past the tracks are all solid in their own right, retaining the band's patented groove and catchiness while integrating twisted dueling guitar riff-offs and swarming solos by Pat O'Brien (ex-Monstrosity, ex-Nevermore), the almost jazzy bass lines of Alex Webster and Paul Mazurkiewicz's patented bulldozer drumming. With every new album it also becomes clear that George "Corpsegrinder" Fischer (ex-Monstrosity) is maybe the most accomplished vocalist on the scene today. Overall, this album isn't wholly different than "Kill", but its increased levels of brutality and intensity are something to be commended. Nearly two decades after its inception Cannibal Corpse are finding new ways of sounding brutal and menacing. Once again recorded at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with venered producer Erik Rutan (Goatwhore, Hate Eternal, Vital Remains) "Evisceration Plague" comes with a stunning production that is incredibly clean sounding while reclaiming a bit of the filth of the band's earliest records but also making the drums sound impotent as a result. The artwork by resident Cannibal Corpse artist Vincent Locke is once again truly amazing. The limited edition of this album comes with an additional bonus track 'Skull Fragment Armor' and a 60 minute long 'making of' DVD.
