Ignominious Incarceration is the latest addition to Earache Records roster of promising death metal bands. "Of Winter Born" is a record rife with technical death metal like Aeon, Decapitated, Monstrosity and Lecherous Nocturne. Like Decapitated before them this UK act consists of relatively young musicians that play a style usually reserved for experienced veteran players in the scene. While the artwork, logo and the band's metal/deathcore looks are detriment to the overall presentation "Of Winter Born" is nothing short of breathtaking effort. At once frighteningly controlled, slightly melodic with much attention to groove and drive Ignominious Incarceration is the latest surprise from the United Kingdom. With competition from bands like Sarpanitum, Spearhead and Detrimentum the scene is bound to bring forward new talents like this band. Certainly, not all tracks on this record are whirlwind epics in the vein of Hate Eternal, (later) Behemoth or Krisiun, but the midpaced approach actually is reminiscent of Death's more progressive later efforts. The extensive lead/solo sections also breath something of a Chuck Schuldiner-esque vibe in their neo-classical fretboard explorations. The production from Scott Atkins (UK metalcore act Sylosis) is possibly at bit too polished for a record of this kind. The artwork is thematically similar to Winds Of Plague's 2008 debut "Decimate the Weak". "Of Winter Born" is a solid debut for Ignominious Incarceration, hopefully they can back it up the way Decapitated did before them.
