German label Iron Pegasus Records have recently re-issued the much sought after "Resurrection of the Ancient Black Earth" album by Los Angeles, California death metal veterans Sadistic Intent. This re-release includes the "Resurrection" and "Ancient Black Earth" mini albums plus the crushing "Morbid Faith" from the hard to find 7'inch. This re-release comes with an extensive 16 page booklet with lyrics, cool photos, etc. Playing dark death metal in the vein of Morbid Angel, (early) Immolation with a dash of (classic) Slayer for good measure Sadistic Intent might not be the fastest or most technical outfit on the scene, but their songwriting skills complement that aspect in spades. From the "Resurrection" EP 'Conflict Within' is a veritable classic that can compete with any of the bigger name bands on the scene then and today. As to be expected with unearthing semi-legendary recordings like this the production is on the rough side and not nearly as clean as today's productions but this is part of the charm. While Sadistic Intent isn't as nearly as productive as some of their more popular counterparts they are equally as important for the evolution of the death metal genre. It might be a bit hard to track down but it is well worth the effort. This is classic death metal: dark, foreboding and hateful.
