With the international deathcore scene being flooded by second - and third tier bands as it is, every label is trying to release one more band before the genre collapses in on itself. Belgian deathcore unit Days Of Betrayal release their debut through the resurrected Shiver Records for mass consumption. "Decapitated For Research" sounds quite like this genre's German branch, think of acts like Heaven Shall Burn, A Traitor Like Judas, etc. Imagine a mix between Bolt Thrower's groove, In Flames' earlier melodic death metal ventures and Hatebreed's grizzly tough man hardcore. Compared to its US counterparts Days Of Betrayal are more articulate and more straightforward while less focus lies on delivering breakdowns en masse. This gives the whole a more concrete and honest feeling compared to the stale, pre-fabricated MySpace bands that are the bane of this genre. Recorded at CDS Studios in Chelmsford, United Kingdom. Produced, mixed and mastered by Mike Curtis "Decapitated For Research" comes with a wide sounding pristine production that is a definite high mark for the label. Artwork, design and lay-out by Vinz at Disaez Studios isn't very original or remarkable but fit the record like a glove. For all intents and purposes, "Decapitated For Research" isn't going to change the face of the scene, yet it is more solid and respectable than what bigger labels are releasing.
