After two demos and a full length "A Pure World Is A Dead World" on Casket Music UK death metallers Nailed return on Anticulture Records with "Hatred, Failure & The Extinction Of Mankind". While their debut didn't get much response outside of their native UK, this record might change that. On their second album this West Yorkshire unit bring an impressive dose of massive sounding death metal like "Formulas Fatal To the Flesh" era Morbid Angel, "Dying" era Anasarca and Zyklon. The delivery is breakneck, the playing is impeccable but there's little soul in what is presented here. The songs are constructed well with ample amounts of head-crushing brutality and technical skill, but with bands such as Morbid Angel, Zyklon and Lost Soul already having released the quintessential records of this particular branch years ago, there's little reason for this album to exist. It has to be said, however, that Nailed are one of the better and more accomplished UK death metal acts of the last years. With young bands such as Sarpanitum and Spearhead both releasing stunning albums together with solid releases from veterans as Desecration, Nailed are poised to become a key player in the otherwise very stale and mediocre English death/black metal scene. Recorded at MCC Studios by Andy Giblin (Napalm Death), who also handled mixing and mastering, "Hatred, Failure & The Extinction Of Mankind" comes with a top notch production job. The artwork, design and lay-out aren't really spectacular or eye-catching, but fulfil their purpose good enough. Nailed aren't yet on the top of the death metal food chain, but they are getting there - one step at a time.
