    Graveforests and their Shadows ()

Wydane przez Stellar Winter Records/Metalhit.comRok wydania Kraj RussiaNapisał Wouter6Komentarze (0)Walknut - Graveforests and their ShadowsAtmospheric black metal act that draws influences from both Slavic folk - and pagan music, in vein of Burzum, Drudkh and Strid. Including members of illustrious acts as Temnozor, Forest and Nitberg. Ideologically, this is national socialistic black metal that deals lyrically with nature, pagan mysticism and heritage. Musically, Walknut is nothing short of impressive in its creation of dark atmosphere and brooding black metal viciousness. With warm strings, light use of the synthesizers and unsettling melodies Walknut lay down a false sense of security before pulling the listener down the dark thanks to the relentless drumwork that remains varied and solid through out. Vocally, this is somewhat similar to Wolves In the Throne Room, but with more echo applied. The songs themselves are strong too, 'Come, Dreadful Ygg' is the most aggressive cut of the record while 'Motherland Ostenvegr' is the slowest and most bleak sounding of the whole album. 'The Midnightforest of the Runes' is the most compact cut and is entirely instrumental while 'Hrimfaxi' is the deceptively serene intro piece and 'Grim Woods' is Walknut's epic tour-de-force. "Graveforests and their Shadows" won't break any new ground in this genre and the band's ideology is their own this remains a pleasant listen.
