Dark old school death metal, featuring Human Filleted members Kyle Christman (Purulent Infection, Found Gutted) on vocals/guitars and Kevin Baum (Found Gutted) behind the drums. In style, this is similar to “The Rack” era Asphyx, “Mindloss” era Gorefest, Bolt Thrower and “Cause Of Death” era Obituary, etc. Much like these legendary institutions this Lafayette, Indiana based act brings a mean-spirited and gloomy take on the classic American – and European death metal sound of mid ‘90s. The majority of the material of this record is played at a steady midpace with well-placed doom sections that keep the atmosphere at a constantly dark pitch. Much of the riffing is very inspired by the seminal first two records of proto-death metallers Celtic Frost and the harmonies and soli sound somewhat like Cathedral’s “Forest Of Equilibrium” and “The Ethereal Mirror” in its slower passages. The inclusion of ‘Downfall Of Man’ a moody instrumental piece on acoustic guitar breaks the album up rather nicely. Christman’s vocals remind of Jason Avery (Eulogy, ex-Monstrosity), Rich Lipscomb (Fleshgrind) or Mike Hrubovcak (Divine Rapture). The production is relatively solid with a crisp and crunchy guitar tone and audible rumbling bass lines. The drum tone, especially the tin sounding snare might need some additional tweaking in the future. The extensive artwork by Vitaly (whose work reminds of Dan Seagrave somewhat) is nothing short of breathtaking and proves why he is the go-to guy in the underground scene.
