    Sufferance Obsolescent ()

Wydane przez NHR RecordsRok wydania Kraj CanadaNapisał Wouter5Komentarze (0)King - Sufferance ObsolescentHailing from Toronto, Ontario (Canada) King hardly sound like any of their peers. With a buzzy guitar tone that sounds like the classic Stockholm death metal sound, church organs, piano and the harmonium that could have been lifted from the better doom metal records and detached, uninteresting and impotent sounding Satyr Wongraven mimicking vocals King have a bit of everything. “Sufferance Obsolescent” – the band’s first official release after two demos – therefore comes both with the strengths and flaws inherent to this particular branch of black metal. While generally traditional in execution the material of this record is quite straightforward in delivery, which opening cut ‘Shattering Metaphysical Revelations’ beautifully displays. ‘Weary Funeral Eyes’ is, as its title implies, a classic doom oriented cut with great interplay between the church organ, piano and harmonium. ‘Lobotomy Cult’ on the other hand starts off with a rock ‘n roll opening section, quite reminiscent of “Now, Diabolical” era Satyricon. The riffing is relatively thick and melodic for usual black metal terms and the same can be said about the production. While nowhere as heavy as a death metal production the work on “Sufferance Obsolescent” is notably different. The guitar tone is crisp and thicker than is usually the case, the bass lines are wonderfully audible but the drum kit is tweaked abysmally making it sound hollow, empty and naked. The artwork, design and lay-out are typical for the genre and are little different than what other bands do in this genre. King has the means to become a very appealing band in the future, “Sufferance Obsolescent” however isn’t showing it yet.
