Excellent high speed Swedish black metal from Russia that sounds like Setherial with bits and pieces reminding of (early) Gorgoroth and Darkthrone. Like their Scandinavian inspirations Storming Darkness performs “Sin-thesis” at a breakneck pace with the occasional melody creeping into their riffing. “Sin-thesis” follows the black metal rulebook by the letter and as such it is a reasonably consistent record that does little to stand out in any way. The serpentine rasps of frontman Sinpreacher Phantom are down the line of Mayhem’s Maniac and former Marduk shrieker Legion and drummer Storm lives up to his stage name. Most of the material is venomous in delivery and hateful in nature with an oppressing dark atmosphere to boot. The sharp riffing, whirlwind drumming and vocal devilry are of the more convincing of recent times. The production comes with a sharp but crunchy guitar tone, audible bass lines and a organic sounding drum tone. The artwork, design and lay-out are typical for the genre but serve their purpose well enough. Storming Darkness have delivered a convincing debut with “Sin-thesis” – now it remains to be seen if they manage to give it a face of their own.
