Clearly a labour of love on the part of Underground Movement – who spent 3 years compiling and finalizing this release - this compilation features the most promising Irish extreme metal acts doing their take on a number of thrash metal classics. With covers from such legends as Vio-Lence, Slayer, Metallica, Nuclear Assault, Sepultura, Testament, Bathory, Venom and more. All 15 bands partaking in this tribute deliver faithful renditions of these classic genre anthems, yet there a few bands who stand out. Reign Of Fire deliver a neckbreaking rendition of Sepultura’s ‘Beneath the Remains’, Warpath lay down an excellent interpretation of Slayer’s ‘Piece by Piece’ and Nuclear Reign are able to make Testament’s ‘Into the Pit’ sound even more hostile and aggressive. Overall, all bands involved in this compilation are, at least to some degree, fans of the bands they cover and the love for the material shows. “Thrash & Burn” was compiled by Ian Lawless and mastered at Trackmix Studios, Dublin by Michael Richards. Artwork, design and lay-out were done by Sean Fitzgerald (Warpath). Underground Movement have surely released another interesting compilation showing Ireland’s finest and most brutal extreme metal bands on the global metal scene. Certainly this effort should be able to put some more Irish bands in the international spotlight.
