Hamburg, Germany's Corporectomy have found the ideal label to call home. Debuting on underground specialist label Sevared Records this act brings brutal death metal like Brodequin, Unmerciful, Liturgy and Origin with slower sections that remind of Devourment. The material of this "Within the Weak and the Wounded" EP is mostly fast but well placed midpaced sections break up the assault nicely. The riffing is dense but not all that technical. The drumming isn't as impressive or as fast as some its influences would indicate as Pawel is no Chad Walls (Brodequin) or James King (Unmerciful). The material is delivered with uncompromising ferocity yet lacks the general hatefulness, the memorable hooks of classic ‘90s death metal and is totally bereft of any dark atmosphere. The production is on muddy side with a thick but undefined guitar tone , inaudible bass lines and the drums are mixed up-and-front pushing the guitars to the background. The artwork, design and lay-out are stereotypical for the genre - but fit well enough with the competition in this genre. "Within the Weak and the Wounded" is just a teaser EP, so hopefully Corporectomy will use their downtime well to streamline their ideas, broaden their songwriting palette and learn from the flaws made here. This unit features members from Irate Architect, Poostew and Awaiting the Autopsy and as such its a minor disappointment for Corporectomy to be as avarage and unexciting as they are.
