Despite a revolving line-up underground supergroup Criminal Element has now released its full length debut after issuing two extremely limited EPs in 2006. Featuring members from Misery Index (Adam Jarvis, drums and Mark Kloeppel, guitars), Suffocation (Derek Boyer, bass) and former Dying Fetus vocalist Vince Matthews. Also featuring on this release are guest vocalists John Gallagher (Dying Fetus) and Jason Netherton (Misery Index, ex-Dying Fetus) who alternate Matthews' screamed grunts with their deep growls and angry highs. As expected the delivery is fierce and the playing is impeccable, coupled with the high end production the album hits home with the expected punch. This debut was mastered at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida by the venerable Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Hate Eternal, Six Feet Under) providing "Guilty As Charged" with the feel of a major label backed release. "Guilty As Charged" was originally released by American underground label Sevared Records in August/September 2008 but now sees its European release through Czech Republic's Lacerated Enemy Records and digital distributor Metalhit.com. This European re-issue of Criminal Element's American debut is now sporting expanded, upgraded artwork and comes in a lush digipack featuring two bonus tracks, being covers of Exciter and Carnivore, respectively. Combining the strengths of all involved "Guilty As Charged" is a highly violent, hardcore punk inspired groovy death metal record that will appeal to fans of all bands involved in this high profile pairing. By no means revolutionary, but all the more enjoyable in its no-frills and fun approach to an otherwise serious genre.
