On their third album for Century Media Records Canadian melodic progressive death/thrash metal combo Into Eternity confirm why they are worth the accolades that were bestowed on them over the last years. Blending lush vocal harmonies with incredible songwriting finesse and mind-melting technical prowess "The Incurable Tragedy" is another solid addition to the band's impressive catalogue. While there's no giant leap forward as with their last two albums this concept record sees the band fleshing out the sound they aimed at with "The Scattering Of Ashes" while expanding their new arsenal. The vocal interplay between founding member/guitarist Tim Roth, bassist Troy Bleich and lead vocalist Stu Block has expanded in scope and has never sounded as diverse and melodic as on this record. On the other hand this is no "Buried In Oblivion" although the band has never done any concessions through out their line-up changes. New members Justin Bender (guitars) and Steve Bolognese (drums) fit in exceptionally with the band and don't deviate from the style of their acclaimed predecessors. The title track is formed of a three piece instrumental at the bookends and middle of the album. This is the band's first concept album. Guitarist/Vocalist Tim Roth lost a few people that were close to him in the last couple of years and that is what the album is describing. As with the previous albums "The Incurable Tragedy" was recorded, mixed and mastered at Touchwood Studios in Regina, Saskatchewan (Canada) with producer/engineer Greg Hall and John Gasparic. The production is similar to the one found on "The Scattering Of Ashes" yet the guitar tone has improved in range, texture and depth while the drums sound far more natural this time around. The artwork, design and lay-out by Matthias Norén for Prog Art is once again stunning and his loyalty towards Into Eternity is something that commands a lot of respect. Hands down the best record Into Eternity have written to date.
