    Urban Cancer ()

Wydane przez Siege Of Amida/Candlelight RecordsRok wydania Kraj CanadaNapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Nefastus Dies - Urban CancerProgressive, highly technical black metal with a variety of biting vocals including growls, rasping shrieks and inhaled screams. Inspired by the second wave of Norwegian black metal and dealing thematically with philosophical and socio-critical subject matter instead of vehement anti-religious banter Nefastus Dies are truly something else. Similar in style and execution to “In the Nightside Eclipse” Emperor this Canadian ensemble bring air of intelligence to contemporary modern black metal. The guitar work is nothing short of amazing. Constantly shifting in pace and direction, always slithering the thin line between death – and black metal, while transitioning between melodic and amelodic. The drumming is especially impressive, combining fierceless blast sections with thundering rolls, unrelenting double bass work and breakneck fills. It is also the drumming that makes Nefastus Dies stand out from many of its peers. The technical onslaught that he brings to this act makes it have more in common with death metal than black metal. The production by the critically acclaimed Yannick St. Amand (Despised Icon, Ion Dissonance) is superb in definition and range with a crunchy guitar tone that holds tons of clarity, audible bass lines and an excellent sound for the drum kit. “Urban Cancer” was mastered by Alan Douches (Beneath the Massacre, Mastodon, Suffocation) at West West Side Music in New Windsor, NY. There’s light use of keyboards through out “Urban Cancer” but like their Norwegian inspirations these only serve to complement Nefastus Dies’ sound and do not dominate at any given point. With so many black metal bands coming out again, it’s good to see that a band like Nefastus Dies is able to do something unique and different within the perimeters of the genre. Certainly a band that has a bright future in front of itself and that might just deliver a watershed album in a few short years from now.
