Debuting on Russian label Cephalic Record this North Carolina duo offer little of interest in the slam-death genre. “Necrosadistic Defilement” is, as the title implies, a horror infested and gore-drenched exercise in low fidelity brutality and depravity. This 7 track EP offers the expected barrage of pit-inducing riffs, blasting drums and gurgling vocals with no adherence to conventional song structure. All tracks storm by at a breakneck pace with Blake Scott (vocals, guitars, bass) being the most prominent member. Scott is able to lay down a punishing variety of gruff vocals and bone-crushing riffs, but they don’t stand out in any meaningful way. The production by Murdaburg Productions is horrible, to say the least, providing the band with a buzzsaw guitar tone that holds tons of bite but has no identifiable clarity, range or definition. The drums sound as a bad drum computer, but are in fact done by second member Billy Pilkin. The EP was mastered at Typhoid Sound Lab but somehow still sounds like a glorified demo. The comic style artwork by Shane for East Coast Brutality is amateurish at best. The lay-out and design by Milan for Abnormal Design on the other hand is more than commendable. Originally released as a self-financed EP, Russian label Cephalic Records is now re-releasing this 15 minute long EP for the international market and seem to be giving it quite a push. On the whole this EP is still too unremarkable to speak of something truly mentionworthy. Fans of slamming death metal like Inhuman Dissiliency, Insidious Descrepancy, Cephalotripsy and Digested Flesh are advised to check this one out.
