Flesh Consumed split up after writing half this album, but reformed in 2005 and are now debuting on Sevared Records with "Mutilate, Eviscerate, Decapitate". This act hails from Santa Cruz, California - which is a haven for extreme death metal that has earlier graced the scene with the likes of Brain Drill and Decrepit Birth - and sound a demented mix between "Tomb Of the Mutilated" era Cannibal Corpse, "House By the Cemetery" era Mortician and Devourment. The riffing is especially thick and meaty with a pummelling bass tone whereas the drum sound a bit sterile. The dual vocals are deep and guttural without any interesting vocal lines to compensate. Flesh Consumed mostly play at a steady midpace with well integrated groove and blast sections. The band are apt on their instruments and the material comes with much variation in speed, tempos and riffing even featuring the occasional creepy lead/solo. "Mutilate, Eviscerate, Decapitate" features guest vocals from a number of celebrities of the local underground scene, including Blue (Guttural Secrete), Obie (Inherit Disease), Hideath (Infernal Revulsion), Shawn (Viral Load, Insidious Decrepency, etc.), Angel (Condemned, Cephalotripsy), Dusty (ex-Severed Savior), and Mario (Analis). The production is great with a thick but clear guitar tone, audible bass lines and, unfortunately, sterile sounding drums. With horrific artwork and a respectable amount of guest vocalists Flesh Consumed have delivered one of the better underground death metal records of recent times.
