Old school death metal studio project by former members of Belgian underground stalwarts Culpable Homicide. "Rott & Roll" is the band's debut and given the joke nature of this band it's surprising to have being as enjoyable as it is. Soiled with humour that made the first Leng Tch'e albums classic Fungus Inc play old school, groove-heavy death metal inspired by the likes of "Haunted" era Six Feet Under or German bands such as Debauchery, Sudden Death or fellow Belgian act Suhrim. Featuring guest vocals by Martin van Drunen (Asphyx, ex-Pestilence, Hail Of Bullets) and Bart Goffinghs (Hollowtone, ex-the Quiescent) the record goes about its business in a rather anonymous fashion most of the time. However, 'Escape From the Beast', 'The Magic Trick' and 'I Forgot How to Pee' are more thought out tracks that actually sound like they go somewhere. 'Shepherd Poon Pie' mocks Deicide's "Legion" intro brilliantly and 'XXX' is a track filled with hilarious samples of German pornos. Produced at Twister Studio in Genk, Belgium "Rott & Roll" has the feel of a moderate budget demo recording. The guitar tone is heavy and clear enough but is placed rather high in the mix. The bass lies comfortably in the background providing a healthy backbone for the rest of the music. The drumming is actually quite technical at times for an old school death metal act, although the credits don't mention who was responsible for laying down these drums. The artwork reminds slightly of Eatmyfuk's "Wet Slit and a Bottle of Whiskey". Not the most amazing band to come out recently, but certainly an enjoyable one when intoxicated.
