Following up their critically acclaimed 2007 album "Xecutioner's Return" Obituary present 2 new tracks, a Celtic Frost cover and a re-take of their ‘Slowly We Rot' track on this stopgap EP. ‘Forces Realign' is the first new track and from the first riff it's clear how little Obituary has actually evolved since starting out in the late 1980's. In fact, the opening riff sounds similar to what the band did on their influential debut "Slowly We Rot" only played much slower. John and Donald Tardy are in fine form behind the mic and drum kit, respectively whereas Trevor Peres and Ralph Santolla lay down their typical foundation of swampy riffs and no less than 4 leads feature on this cut. Next up is Obituary's take on Celtic Frost's classic ‘Dethroned Emperor'. Once again it becomes clear just how important Celtic Frost was for a band such as Obituary. Like on 1991's "Cause Of Death" the Celtic Frost material is hard to tell apart from the band's own as both are so irrevocably bound to each other. What follows is a faithful rendition of the band's own ‘Slowly We Rot', which greatly benefits from the band's improved production values. Closing off this EP is the title track which much like the new cut that opened this record sees Obituary doing their thing and being their usual self. Recorded at the band's own Redneck Studio and coming with impressive artwork by the always reliable Andreas Marschall "Left to Die" sees Obituary at their most primal and brutal.
