Probably being one of the most prominent players on the US black metal scene Texas based Bahimiron release their second album "Southern Nihilizm" through American specialist label Moribund Records. The band plays a highly charged mix of razorsharp Scandinavian black metal and the more occult thrash-influenced war metal popularized by the likes of Abominator, Absu, Bestial Warlust, Blasphemy, Conqueror and Deströyer 666. The atmosphere is oppressingly grim and frightingly suffocating all while adhering to the known traditional genre standards. Much like the revolutionairy Scandinavian black metal bands of the mid-to-late ‘90s Bahimiron need not to play at constant top speed to create an atmosphere of all consuming darkness. Bahimiron might not be doing anything remotely new in the genre, but what they do - they do with much gusto and conviction. The delivery is fiery, the execution is fittingly barbaric and all in Bahimiron know their way around their respective instruments. The individual songwriting also is instantly recognizable, a feature not often seen in underground black metal these days. The production is similar to Dark Funeral’s debut "The Secrets Of the Black Arts" although the guitar tone and drum sound is notably better. "Southern Nihilizm" is bestial black metal and chaotic war metal merged with that typical southern flair, exalting sounds of alienation, depression and disgust while simultaneously rejoicing in all that is violent and morbid about American culture.
