Coming 7 long years after "Organised Chaos" UK death metal stalwarts Benediction make their presence once again felt. "Killing Music" is a murderous record that proves the band’s durability and relevance despite being around for nearly two decades. After an orchestral almost cinematic intro ‘The Grey Man’ kicks in and it’s instantly clear that Benediction goes for the jugular. The typical Benediction riffs burst and shred as if "The Grand Leveller" and 1991 never passed while the no-frills drumming of Neil Hutton provides the record with a thundering backbone. Vocalist Dave Hunt is his usual self as he grunts, growls and barks his way through the 11 tracks that comprise this record. This is without a single doubt Benediction’s most vicious and aggressive album to date. While this seventh album is by no means an instant classic as "Transcend the Rubicon" or "the Dreams You Dread" was Benediction know better than anyone to write engaging groove death metal in its most basic form. "Killing Music" does justly what it title implies; ruthlessly killing imitators and impostors while staying musically relevant despite trends coming and going. The album was produced by Anaal Nathrakh mastermind Mick Kenney and like the band’s classic output there’s enough roughness around the edges to keep that authentic old school death metal feeling intact. The limited edition of this record comes with a grand total of 4 bonus tracks, 2 originals (‘Betrayer’, ‘They Bleed’) and 2 covers of legendary punk acts Broken Bones (‘Seeing Through My Eyes’) and Amebix (‘Largactyl’). As their peers Incantation, Gorefest and Immolation this British act only gets better with age.
