Serbia’s Disdained play semi-technical US death metal, inspired by the classic Florida and New York scenes of the early 1990’s. Citing Suffocation and Deeds Of Flesh as primary influences is a bit misleading as neither genre institution is really represented in their overall sound. While the riffing sometimes borders on Suffocation territory and the blast sections recall Deeds Of Flesh it is more of an (early) Vital Remains and Cannibal Corpse vibe that permeates through out this record. The biggest mishap of "We All Reek" is the scattered songwriting, presenting a number of ideas but never truly exploring either of them fully. The first half of this record contains various semi-industrial soundscapes separating the tracks while the second half sees Disdained abandoning this idea entirely and going into full US death metal mode. Closing the record is the expected Suffocation cover of ‘Infecting the Crypts’ - together with ‘Liege Of Inveracity’ this probably the most covered track in the underground. Additionally, there’s a self-produced promo clip for the track ‘Obtuse Chisel’. Disdained know how to play this genre yet their by-the-numbers songwriting sees them solely going through the motions. The tracks of this record fail to stand out in any way and the band should go out of its way to write something truly spectacular. The production is halfway decent with a crispy guitar tone that is both defined while remaining heavy. The drum sound isn’t quite as good, bordering on sounding like a drumcomputer with its sterile sounding snare while the rest of the kit sounds equally lifeless. The artwork, design and lay-out by Tara Kerac are superb and is slightly reminiscent of the current very popular Pär Olofsson. Not the most amazing death metal band around in Serbia, but certainly a mildly entertaining one.
