After releasing one critically acclaimed album in 2002 "Daemusinem Domine Empire" it became awfully quiet for a number of years around this promising Italian act. Now out of nowhere Daemusinem returns with "Diabolical Carnage" on Singapore's Vrykoblast Productions. As with their stunning debut these Italians still play wildly demonic death/black metal with influences from Cannibal Corpse, Deicide and Marduk. The whirlwind drumming is reminiscent of "Heaven Shall Burn" and "Nightwing" era Marduk whereas the guitar riffs and vocals recall Cannibal Corpse and Deicide. The general speed, breakneck delivery and precise execution reminds of acts such as (classic) Diabolic, Krisiun while the vocals are a bit standard in its high-low alterations, they are serviceable. In other instances there's a certain Swedish melodicism that can be noticed through out, while in equal measure the riffs border on black – and thrash metal in equal measure. Unlike many of their contemporaries Daemusinem effectively make use of shrieking leads/solos and while they aren't always great – it's good to see leads/solos make a return in death metal. Vocally, this sounds like (early) Aborted and while the vocals are done properly there aren't a great deal of interesting vocal lines going on. The production is fittingly clear, textured and brick heavy. The guitars shred, the bass thunders and the drums pound furiously. Artwork, design and lay-out are reasonably good but nothing spectacular. Overall, Daemusinem have delivered an outstanding second album with "Diabolical Carnage" - an album that will appeal to fans of Diabolic, Krisiun, Deicide and Marduk. Be sure to give it a listen, if you can find it!
