Divine Pustulence is an American death metal band that describes the life and work of the most infamous serial killers of our time. Vocals are split between drummer Mike Stinski and guitarist Chris Poplin, one being a demented shriek while the other is an absolute incomprehensible low pig vomit. There's no interaction between both vocalists during the length of this album. Additionally are the vocals layered so low in the mix making it hard to tell them apart from the horribly thin and punchless guitar tone. Of the 14 tracks on this album there's not one that stands out and each track sounds almost identical to the one that came before. The bass lines of Sarah Stinski can be heard from time to time, although Mike Stinski's sloppy, loose and unspectacular drumming take away any effect the bass might have had. The production is horrible to say the least. The guitars and vocals are virtually indiscernable from each other while the drums sound like were recorded in a cardboard box. The artwork by the always reliable Jon Zig (Crimson Massacre, Deeds Of Flesh, Necrotic Disgorgement, Severed Savior) is typical and one of the redeeming factors of this otherwise mundane and stale album. "Tortured, Raped and Sacrificed to Satan" is surely a well-versed exercise in sickness and depravity but the extremity factor alone isn't able to redeem this band from a "been there, done that" feeling. With better production values, more memorable songwriting and improved technical skills Divine Pustulence might become worth of anyone's time and money. Mortician fans will probably love this, the more discerning and adventurous metal fan is advised to have a careful listen before picking up this record.
