    A Silhouette in Splinters ()

Wydane przez Moribund RecordsRok wydania Kraj USANapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Leviathan - A Silhouette in SplintersReleased on extremely limited red vinyl LP initially, but recently re-released on CD by black metal specialist label Moribund Records. "A Silhouette in Splinters" is a compilation of previously unreleased tracks that further explore Leviathan's ambient side. Contrary to his work on 2003's "Tenth Sublevel Of Suicide", 2004's "Tentacles Of Whorror" or most recently with this year's "Massive Conspiracy Against All Life" this compilation is filled with brooding and oppressing ambient and darkwave and not Leviathan's patented misanthropic black metal. While the midpaced tempo remains constantly the airy and floaty nature of most of the material present on this record "A Silhouette in Splinters" never becomes a burden to sit through. The songs segue beautifully into each other and the sporadic vocals add a morbid touch however little they feature through out. Compared to the rest of Leviathan's discography "A Silhouette in Splinters" is a great experiment in exploring the band's ambient counterpart. Sole member Jeff ‘Wrest' Whitehead knows how to compose an engaging ambient track and never falls in the trap of writing tired keyboard lines and pasting nature sounds under them. Each track has its distinctive character and flow and while each track is strong individually, the album has to be heard in its entirety to reach the desired effect. If you are into bands such as Arcana, Dead Can Dance and Veiled Allusions this record will be right down your alley. Certainly a direction worth exploring further for Leviathan mainman Wrest.
