Treviso, Italy based black metallers Stormfrost bring Scandinavian black metal, taking much influence of the legendary Dissection. Unlike their inspirations the traditional heavy metal leanings are not present and this results in "Detaching from Humans" sounding like a more pissed off version of Dissection's "The Somberlain" without the Iron Maiden riffs and songstructures. The riffing is dense and melodic at the same time without falling into the traps of either facet. Audible bass lines provide "Detaching from Humans" with a nice rumbling in the background. The leads/solos are respectable and although they won't quite turn any heads, it's healthy to see underground black metal using solos. The drumming is serviceable, but once again not quite as amazing as a band like this could use nor does it deliver any kick to the repertoire of this band. The vocals are truly demonic and disgusting. It's been a while since such hateful rasps have been heard in this genre. 'Reflecting in Solitude' is a moody instrumental acoustic piece which adds a nice flow to the record. It is in this track that Stormfrost truly shows its face and it is hard to why they don't use these brilliant acoustics more often. The production is notably muddy with a drum sound that is reminiscent of Sepultura's "Schizophrenia" and a guitar tone that is clear, but doesn't quite hold any bite. Closing off this record is the band's 5 track 2006 demo "Sons Of Hate".
