Abominations Of the Nebulah Mortiis ()

P. Lovecraft. Yog-Sothoth's name was first mentioned in his novella 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward' (written 1927, first published 1941). The being is said to take the form of a conglomeration of glowing bubbles. This Colombian act takes much influence from Cenotaph (Mexico) and "Diabolical Conquest" era Incantation but plays much faster than these two. The first part of the album comes with a number of short tracks, clocking over 3 minutes at best. Lengthier cuts such as opener 'Prayer Of Doom', 'Crawling Chaos' or 'Calling the Wrath Of Evil' balance out the short tracks of this album nicely, providing the album with a good flow. The gloomy midtempo sections in 'Mystic Void' and 'Crawling Chaos' remind of (early) Incantation and (early) Sinister. The production is muddy and fittingly dirty with rough edges around the guitar tone. While the production is expectedly muddy it contains just enough definition and clarity to let the band get their point across while simultaneously adding some old school charm to "Abominations Of the Nebulah Mortiis". The artwork, design and lay-out of this album are a bit on the amateurish side. While Yogth Sothoth isn't reinventing the wheel in any way or form, they have taken the direction of Incantation and made it their own. If they are able to add a bit of individuality to the songs by the time their next album rolls around, they could become Colombia's new hope for underground death metal.
