At the Sign Of Battlehorns ()

Unholy Storm is able to create a majestic atmosphere by contrasting fast – and midpaced sections. The band masters their instruments well and the use of typical Scandinavian melodies considering this is a band from Italy. The material is of this album is well played but not very remarkable as far as compositions are concerned. The use of sung - and spoken vocals contrasts nicely with the usual rasps and they form a nice departure from usual genre formulas. The riffs, chord progressions and song structures are fairly simple and tend to juxtapose moody midpaced sections with relentless blasting parts. The production of this demo is exceptionally well considering the budgetary constraints. The delivery is passionate and tight with fiery performances from all involved. The guitar tone is clean and heavy, the bass rumbles audibly and the drums are both raw and organic but remain clear. Artwork, design and lay-out are acceptable but not very special or visually stimulating. With some more care for product presentation Unholy Storm might just attract a few more listeners to their act. For now Unholy Storm is still an all too typical underground black metal band struggling to find an indentity and sound to call their own.
