    Gateways to Oblivion ()

Wydane przez Slava Satan Records/Avantgarde MusicRok wydania Kraj ItalyNapisał Wouter7Komentarze (0)Deathrow - Gateways to OblivionOn its Slava Satan Records debut “Gateways to Oblivion” Italian one-man funeral doom/black metal project Deathrow proves to be a worthy addition to the scene. Much like Danish project Nortt this record is filled with slowly unfolding song structures, contrasting riffs and melodies with melancholic acoustics and painful black metal rasps. Overall, this is somewhat similar to (early) My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema, albeit in a black metal fashion and without their lush keyboards and dynamics. Vocally, this is much like Immortal. Thorns, who plays all instruments and sings, doesn’t suffer the fate most one-man project do as the material on this record is varied, instrumentally proficient, conceptually strong and carefully nurtured. The production is surprisingly clear-cut in its crisp guitar tone and massive pounding drum sound with neatly produced vocals to top things off. With 5 lengthy tracks “Gateways to Oblivion” fulfils its purpose while never outstaying its welcome. The artwork, design and lay-out are superb with no expenses spared with a carefully constructed booklet and its fitting desolate grey tones which draw comparisons with Marduk’s “Plague Angel” in overall look. If you like funeral doom and suicidal black metal this is definitely a band to look into.
