Mystic Grave hail from Finland and like their peers in Ydin and Torture Killer they specialize in old school death metal. Very much inspired by the seminal Autopsy and Visceral Evisceration this unit brings the same kind of gore-drenched doom-fused death metal. On this 5 track EP Mystic Grave is able to conjure up the same damp atmosphere at their legendary inspirations. Both in guitar tone, drumming and vocals this reeks very much of classic Autopsy. Mystic Grave is made up of capable musicians but at this point they are merely an Autopsy worship band at best. If they branch out a bit more into individuality and work on giving their classic death metal sound a face of its own, they’ll soon be on their way to become an interesting act. To say that this release will gain them much attention is debatable. The EP title is a funny throwback to Cianide’s 1997 “Death, Doom and Destruction” release. “Doom, Death, Darkness” was recorded and mixed ar RAAKK Studios in Raahe, Finland by Janne Satokangas. Mastering was done at BRR Studios in Raahe, Finland by J.Matinheikki. Logo and artwork by A.S.Lampi is fitting and reminds a lot of At the Gates’ vintage “Gardens of Grief” EP. It is advisable to check out Autopsy itself, if you want to get a real taste of how this sort of death metal is done properly.
