Featuring an ex-member of legendary Canadian war-metallers Blasphemy this unit is more than able to live up to the set of expectations that come with that legacy. Much like their peers in Abominator, Bloodstorm or Deströyer 666 Grimbane specializes in a bestial form of death/black metal that combines the best of the war metal genre with old school Norwegian or Finnish black metal. Alternating beautifully between full-on blast sections and moody mid-tempo sections Grimbane possess an uncanny feeling for writing catchy death/black metal. The use of eerie melody also adds to the macabre atmosphere and in fact seems to be lifted from the Scandinavian progenitors, who in turn were inspired by Blasphemy themselves. Much like the genre's Scandinavian ancestors Grimbane utilises acoustics to provide this record with an authentic black metal atmosphere that is lost on most new generation of bands in this genre. "Let the Empires Fall" comes with stunning blasphemous artwork by the always reliable Joe Petagno (Diabolic, Angelcorpse, Marduk, etc). If one genre is suffering from oversaturation then it's the black metal genre. With bands such as Grimbane claiming the throne and their rightful place amongst the genre's elite, it will be only a matter of time ere all pretenders to the throne are weeded out. This is a record that grinds, thrashes and brings atmosphere back into the black metal genre.
