Originally released in 2005 on Striborg's own Finsternis Productions "Trepidation" is now re-released through Displeased Records in a new and enhanced version. This album harkens back to Striborg's earlier days as the production on this one is even poorer in comparison to usual standards. The drumming is a near constant blast and the only audible thing on the kit happens to be the bass drums. Keyboards wail haunting in the back while a guitar tone is nearly nowhere to be heard. Littered through the record are forest sounds of all shapes and varieties. To create a hallucinotic and harrowing effect the riffs are repetitive and one-dimensional. The drumming is complementary and sloppy when at lower tempos. Vocally, Sin-Ninna is his usual self although on "Trepidation" he sounds especially dramatic, if not nearly theatrical. In comparison to the earlier re-released "Mysterious Semblance" the material here is mostly faster while the ambient interludes still form a prominent place in Striborg's modus operanti. Displeased Records has once again done an admirable job unearthing these out-of-print recordings and re-releasing them with new, improved artwork and packaging. Fans of Xasthur, Mütiilation and Ildjarn will find much to like here.
