Canberra, Australia based melodic death metal that is both progressive and thrashy in its songwriting. Combining recognizable traits of (early) In Flames with the more epic scoped compositional skills of bands such as Dark Tranquillity and Opeth this band is fairly advanced despite its young age. There's definitely something at work during these three cuts. 'I Will Stand', 'Starborn Desolation' and 'Disciplined to Eradicate My Sanity' all contain the needed tempo changes, strong guitar work and fitting drumming to make Templestowe stand out even at this stage. Obviously beneath the expected typical Swedish melodies, harmonies and acoustic interludes there is much more to be found when scratching the surface. Templestowe have yet to outgrow the demo-stage and once they've done that, they'd possibly be able to grow the confines of their isolated continent. The production is fairly good considering this is a demo recording. The guitars and bass are heavy and hold much clarity. The drums are a overpowering, to say the least, especially the bass drums and seem to have a bit of an echo. The growls are deep but remain understandable, but somehow also having an odd echo to them. The artwork is tasteful in execution and composition. While nothing particularly eye-catching its abstract nature fits rather nicely with the band early Swedish approach to progressive death metal. Be sure to pick up a copy of this demo if you have the chance. They are not quite there yet, but the potential to do great things and go places is definitely present. While obviously not yet at the top of their game these Canberra natives are amongst the most promising melodic death metal units to surface in recent times.
