Despite the look and sound of their full length debut Skull Collector is not a South American death metal outfit. While the delivery and production value might suggest their linking to South American death metal "Depravity Indulged Through Fresh Corporal Parts" is a highly lethal slab of North American death metal. Influences from (early) Exhumed (although not nearly as catchy in songwriting), Cannibal Corpse and Brazilian stalwarts Krisiun (again, not nearly as technically accomplished) Skull Collector deliver a competent, but all too mundane take on the brutal death metal genre. The riffing on this album is solid and of the American variety. But despite all their noble intentions it's the songs themselves that seem written out of a textbook and by-the-numbers. Dynamics aren't Skull Collector's forte either as the songs twists themselves rather amateurishly and forced in the structure they have. The low key and shoddy production job courtesy of Soundshape Studio, Schaffen doesn't help to improve matters either. The snare drums sound like tin cans and hollow, whereas the bass drums sound oddly produced. Packaging reminds me a bit of Seattle death metallers Drawn and Quartered. These faults aside "Depravity Indulged Through Fresh Corporal Parts" is a veritable feast for underground death metal enthusiasts who don't mind primitive production values and the band's rather limited palette of riffs and grooves. A dense and primitive death metal tornado that puts Belgium solidly on the genre's underground map.
