    The Haunting Presence ()

Dario Derna (who has cut his teeth in diverse extreme metal acts such as Abazagorath, Evoken and Drawn and Quartered) has made it his personal mission to bring back the traditional black metal of the early '90s, namely the pioneering Scandinavian kind. "The Haunting Presence" is indeed what its name implies; a desolate harrowing musical beast that re-establishes the genre's core traits in tradition of the Scandinavian forefathers. Beautifully haunting and swathed in sombre hopelessness the 7 tracks of this record stand tall as exquisite examples of underground black metal in the hands of a capable and visionary musician. While not revolutionary by any stretch of the imagination it has been quite some years since black metal sounded this passionate while retaining a professional working ethic that puts Krohm above and beyond the current wave of home-recorded, bedroom black metal acts. It also leads to what could result from this act if they would go for the standard band format. Together with the great production and the moody grim artwork "The Haunting Presence" could possibly become the benchmark for underground black metal to adhere to. Debemur Morti Productions has tagged this as "transcendental, paranormal black metal" and while press sheets usually tout any band as the next big thing in the genre, I tend to agree with them this time.
