This is the fourth full length release for France's Hypnosis on equally as much labels. Describing themselves as "hybrid death" a more fitting description would be semi-industrial gothic death metal. The riffing here is actually surprisingly brutal and while the drumming is nothing spectacular it's more of a death – than gothic metal variety. While Bouthemy's riffs are of a rather limited palette, "Seeds Of Fate" manages to keep interesting through out. Towards the second half of the album however the riffs run out of steam and sound workmanlike. The gothic part of the equation comes from the use of synthesizers, loops, samples and a number of other electronic sounds. Cindy Goloubkoff (guitars) and Pierre Bouthemy (guitars, drums) share vocal duties and while both singers have their vocals additionally processed it is Bouthemy that comes off as the most convincing of the duo. Goloubkoff's vocals are hard to hear properly due to the low key production job, but they come off as sounding too compressed and there's an echo-like effect that makes it hard to hear the subtle details of the vocals. As far as emotional phrasing, technical delivery and range is concerned Goloubkoff falls comfortably in the second-tier category of female singers. As said previously the production is low key. Guitars and bass are produced quite nicely and both possess the necessary punch, crisp and earthiness. The drum kit sounds quite triggered, but holds enough organic warth to not sound too sterile. Artwork, design and lay-out aren't really all that good. Hypnosis would benefit from recording their vocals in a better studio environment and hire a professional designer next time around. Although, it's nothing new for gothic - and industrial metal fans Hypnosis do a fairly solid if not unremarkable take on the genre.
