On their Neurotic Records debut "When Landscapes Bled Backwards" this Greek outfit takes a number of cues from their American counterparts while adding their own flavour to the mix, resulting in an impressive modern day technical death metal record. With influences ranging from Morbid Angel, Atheist and Death to the earlier mentioned Nile, Sickening Horror throw in additional industrial soundscapes, black metal leanings and free flowing jazz-fusion parts that remind of later era Pestilence. It must however be said that the band never go overboard with any of these influences. Vocalist George Antipatis double-duties on guitars and his interaction with bassist Ilias Daras and drummer Kollias is nothing short of impressive. The band is a tight-knit unit where every one involved excels on their specific instrument. All tracks are meticulously written and new layers and details can be discovered upon multiple listens. The industrial sections add a post-modern feel to the album, while the free flowing jazz-fusion parts contrast the brutal blasting technical onslaught that is otherwise to be found on this record. Much promise and potential for Sickening Horror is evident through out this debut, but in the coming years it will become clear with the next album whether the band is able to build upon the framework set here. "When Landscapes Bled Backwards" was recorded in Athens, Greece and mixed by producer Neil Keirnon (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Nevermore, Nile). Mastering was done by the much-in-demand Alan Douches at West West Side Music (God Forbid, Hatebreed, Leng Tch'e, Mastodon) in New York.
