Belgian brutal death metallers Neverlight Horizon have been around since 2000. They have been productive, virtually releasing a demo each year; which in turn led to their Deadsun Records debut "Dehumanized" in 2005. This predictably titled debut clearly takes influence from classic death metal, with most prominent influences being Angel Corpse, Deranged and (early) Vader as far as blunt force and head-on intensity is concerned. The production is surprisingly good, taking in account this band's previous questionable track record. Vocally, this is very much influenced by the Brazilian death metal movement of the mid-to-late '90s. The guitar tone is meaty and brick heavy and the drums sound both clear while remaining organic and warm in tone. Neverlight Horizon is a strong band, musically that lacks about every bit of originality one would expect. Like their peers in Goryptic the unit should take the time to carve out their own niche, conceptually instead of blindly (and quite horribly, actually) rehashing the expected genre subjects and apocalyptic themes. The lay-out and packaging are a bit misleading and not quite as spectacular as it could have been. With a record full of classic influences artwork by Dan Seagrave, Andreas Marschall or Joe Petagno are almost expected, in this department the record goes flat on its face. The artwork itself is okay, but would fit better with a melodic or symphonic metal band – not quite with a brutal death metal like this on here. Somewhat of a glorified demo album, Neverlight Horizon is on the verge of delivering a record that could put them on the map, internationally. While this is a good dress rehearsal for future greatness "No Heaven... Only Torment" lacks in product presentation and individual flair to really force a breakthrough for the unit just yet.
