With an album title like this and the fitting – totally old school – artwork is no hard guess just what this Norwegian unit is up to. Fusing classic '80s German thrash (Kreator, Sodom, Destruction) with Bay Area thrash (Testament, Metallica, Exodus, etc) "Thrash Metal" is a angry kick in the teeth to these who had written off this genre prematurely. Taking their name from the Turbonegro song 'Drenched In Blood' Blood Tsunami's most prominent player is former Emperor drummer Bard G. Eithun whose work his is rather straightforward and not as complex as his classic black metal oeuvre. Vocalist and guitarist Pete Evil has a high pitched black metal oriented shriek that actually adds to the overall old school experience. The drums pound, the guitars shred and leads are aroud every corner. There isn't really anything new offered on this album, but the enthusiasm and expertly written and executed material compensate more than necessary for this inherent lack of originality. The production fits well with the genre and a close comparison could be drawn to Metallica's classic thrash lexicon "Master Of Puppets" or its predecessor "Ride the Lightning". Together with the American thrash sensation Municipal Waste, this Norwegian combo is probably the best thing in bringing the classic sound back into the mainstream metal community. Not very original as a stand alone product, but very well executed as an exercise into the old school metal experience.
