    Age Eternal ()

Wydane przez Metal Blade RecordsRok wydania Kraj USANapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Middian - Age EternalMiddian is the continuation of Yob, and just like its predecessor Middian brings psychedelic, spacey doom with a heavy dose of stoner rock/metal, although the pace lies notably higher here. Founder Mike Scheidt is his usual self as far as vocals is concerned and his high pitched tones fit excellent with the soaring stoner doom that Middian stands for. The interaction between the high pitched Scheidt and bassist Will Lindsay is interesting and differentiates itself from Yob in the sense that Lindsay has a rough scream similar to Mastodon's Troy Sanders. Drummer Scott Headrick provides the primal beats and pulses that thrust Middian forward. Opener 'Dreamless Eye' draws out what Middian stands for rather nicely, starting off with a stoner rock opening section before culminating in the doomy, Yob-inspired middle section with the (almost) tribal drumming, colossal tripped out riffs and weird solos Scheidt's former band was known for. 'The Blood Of Icons' starts off with a melancholic acoustic intro piece that with its fleeting melodic solo reminds of Esoteric, Shape Of Despair, Thergothon and other bands of this ilk. Soon after the intro section the track slips into Yob gear and this is probably the track that harkens back most to Scheidt's former band best, note the spacey closing section in particular. 'Age Eternal' starts off in a similar manner, even taking in a slight influence from (later) Neurosis. The overlapping oppressive ambience is present through out the record and together with the vocal diversity makes this a most promising debut. "Age Eternal" was recorded at Dogwood Recording in Oregon, providing the record with a massive sound similar to Yob's swansong "The Unreal Never Lived". Lay-out and design were done by Ross Sewage (Exhumed) and fits perfectly with the band's spacey, esoteric sound. Fans of Yob need to pick this one up.
