The clean, cutting edge production job and the band's semi-Gothenburg swathed metalcore is meticulously written and expertly performed but hardly differentiates itself from the crop. All genre traits are accounted for, including the usual staccato riffing, the screamy gruff, pseudo-emotional vocals and catchy Swedish metal alike hooks, acoustic interludes and basic drumming. Dead Man in Reno would benefit from keeping their songs a bit more compact, as on various occasions slow parts tend to drag on too long. Every once in a while, it feels as if this band wants to be The Dillinger Escape Plan – but don't master their craft enough yet. The vocal work by Justin Sansom is a bit monotoneous in the long run and tends to bleed songs together. Recorded at Basement Recording Hall, North Carolina with famed Jamie King (Through the Eyes Of the Dead, Between the Buried and Me) "Dead Man in Reno" possesses all the production flair that is expected from a record of this kind. The excellent artwork, lay-out and design deserve an honourable mention as well.
