2 years after "13" Florida genre veterans Six Feet Under deliver another slab of blood soaked old school death metal the way only they can. From the onset with the track 'Doomsday' it's clear that "Commandment" is a return to form of sorts, after the last few lacklustre efforts in the band's discography. The riffs, which at this point have become interchangeable, at best – flow at the regular mid pace, the drums deliver the expected beat and frontman Chris Barnes roars his recognizable grunt. Returning to their "Haunted" roots the material here is able to match up with their debut, although both albums were made under a wholly different set of circumstances. Steve Swanson is apparently on auto-pilot, as his riffs again aren't too technically demanding, solely relying upon groove to get the job done. Terry Butler's bass is felt, but never truly heard, seemingly content to follow the standard riffing set by Swanson. Greg Gall's drumming is basic, to say the least, but at least occasionally tries to spice things up here and there. Barnes vocals and lyrics sound tired and burned out, add to that the dangerously unenthusiastic delivery, the unimaginative artwork and the generally hasty nature of this disc; the equation is pretty clear… It's time to put Six Feet Under to rest while they still have some dignity left, as their best days are truly behind them now. Avoid, at any rate.
