French death/grind band Infest take influences from both thrash metal in riffs as black metal in vocal stylings. The band's delivery is breakneck with occasional slower thrash sections whereas the vocals at all times seem inspired by early Cradle Of Filth. All in all, this reminds me of Inhumate at times, as Infest is equally intense and as hectic. Lyrically, the band treats the expected socio-political subjects and while the delivered material varies wildly in execution the overlapping sense of grinding urgency ties this otherwise inconsistent record nicely together. The urgency does remind of old school punk and hardcore (Discharge, Minor Threat, Verbal Abuse etc) and the riffing, when not dabbling in death or thrash, are straight out conventional punk and hardcore in structure. There are 11 tracks on this record, but there are no stand-out or signature tracks worth mentioning as the material tends to bleed together as the album progresses. Where Infest fail in conjuring up something truly their own, they succeed in delivering a record that breathes an old school spirit lost on many of its contemporaries. The production is good with a nicely thick guitar tone, the bass sits vividly in the mix and the drums pound with reckless abandon. Aditionally, there's a live video for the track 'Oxido'. A strange blend of old school punk mentality with a thrashing death/grind foundation.
